If you wish to view a painting in the gallery that you have seen on our website, please inform us in advance in order to have it on display when you arrive. The reason for this is that our website is quite extensive and we do not have room for everything in the gallery at any one time. Apologies for any inconvenience caused.

PAINTINGS JUST IN

Art as an investment

Art exists to enrich our visual world and most important of all to give us pleasure. Its value should not be taken for granted nor be underestimated.
Whether it is the way a carefully chosen painting enhances a living room or office. Or the way a piece of art inspires its owner to become an avid collector, there is no escaping the fact that art is there for us all to enjoy. Contemporary art is one of the most pleasurable ways to invest your hard earned money and it is considered to be among the most efficient investment vehicles around. An added bonus is that you get years of enjoying it hanging in pride of place on your wall. In recent years the Irish art market has grown faster than any other International art market worldwide. Many people have dreamt of finding a long lost masterpiece in their granny’s attic or finding a bargain of a lifetime in a sale of work. Generally speaking, this does not happen and really would be like trying to find a needle in a haystack. There are other ways to make money from fine art that will not necessarily cost an arm and a leg.

At The Green Gallery over the last 12 years we have introduced hundreds of would be investors to their first purchase of contemporary art, and guess what, they come back time and time again to see what’s new. It is now the fashion for expensive Apartments and Houses to have a piece of art as a centre piece whether it be over the fire place or in the hallway. A great piece of art always creates an ambiance and is a conversation piece.

Sumptuous alluring colour and texture are very much a part of our selection of figurative and abstract works. Some of them are sexy and tantalizingly must have pieces that steer the imagination. Others capture the beauty of the Irish landscape and the historical architecture of our Irish towns and Cities.

Corporate

The corporate sector find contemporary art an excellent vehical for investment and are attracted by The Green Galleries experience and very favourable resale terms. They want to join the list of companies such as BOI, AIB and Microsoft to have a strategic policy on the purchasing of art. Accountants, The Medical Profession, Solicitors, Barristers, basically any of the top A1 earners in the country regularly visit The Green Gallery to seek our expertise.

Most of our artists increase by an average of 12% per year. Over a six year period on average the value of the painting would double. In the unlikely event there is a drastic downturn in the economy. Unlike stocks and shares your art would not decrease in value rather just plateau for a while as you continue to enjoy it on your wall and await an upturn in the market.

The artists whom The Green Gallery represent are carefully selected. They all have a personality of their own which of course is evident in their work. Some are better known than others and therefore command a higher price. Ross Eccles who is our eldest at 70 years of age is an architect by trade. He has been exhibiting his wonderfully quirky acrylics and watercolours with the Green Gallery since 1995. His prices range from 450 to 6000. Fine watercolourists adorn the gallery walls. Máire Flanagan's wonderfully soft landscapes are generally of Dublin's coastal scenes and also of her native Mayo.(95 to 600) Peter Knuttel now 60 is one of Ireland's foremost landscape painters. Paintings of his trees and beloved Wicklow hills are always in stock. (480 to 3000) Dublin born John Schwatschke is an interesting prospect. His friendship with President de Valera whose portrait he painted after leaving school, led to the President persuading him to do one thing and do it well, which he thought should be art. Schwatschke took this advice and continued to record his works meticulously. The National Gallery of Ireland have recently shown an interest in acquiring these extensive archives.(2,500 to 9,500) Norman Teeling now 63 paints beautiful oils of local street scenes and is well known for his old world interiors of Georgian Dublin. (1500 to 3500) At The Green Gallery we are interested in talent more so than nationality. We have always had an international flavour to the gallery. Among them is Andrius Kovelinas a Lithuanian artist living in Dublin for the past 5 years. Andrius has a very exciting style of figurative painting. Primarily of the female form in nature are sexy and captivating. (500 to 5,500) Lucia Cullinane, a young up and coming artist is a native of Spain now living in Co. Waterford. Her very colourful fun picks of people socialising are always in demand (350 to 850). These and many more of our artists are serious contenders in Ireland's future art economy.

Resale

The Green Gallery have a resale policy. We will display on our website a painting purchased from us previously and will offer it for sale at a small commission of 10% + costs =14.5%. Capital Gains Tax (CGT) is payable at 20% on gains made from selling the painting. The difference between purchase price and selling price is taxed at 20% after an exemption of 1,270.00 if sold on by a single person or twice = 2,540.00 if sold on by a couple who are jointly assessed.
We conservatively estimate that a painting purchased from us for x amount and resold for y amount in 10 to 12 years. After resale fees and taxes the profit gained can be about 200%. Some will greatly exceed this estimation.
