For the very first time Jim FitzPatrick is releasing a limited edition set of his prints on the open market called Erinsaga. This offering of four prints is to be at the extremely low price of €175 (€225 framed) each as an introductory offer.
Of these, no more than 995 prints –signed and numbered –will be issued worldwide and as each print run is completed all plates are destroyed so no identical or simular edition can ever be issued. This is a one-off print run never to be repeated.
IMPORTANT INFORMATION FOR COLLECTORS.
THE ÉRINSAGA COLLECTION is a series of twelve prints released in three sets of four prints each. The first set of four prints is available now and if you are a purchaser you will be informed of future releases in advance of publication.
WHAT IS THE ÉRINSAGA COLLECTION? The Érinsaga Collection is the culmination of Celtic artist Jim Fitzpatrick’s extraordinary art and lifetime obsession with the myths and legends of his native Ireland. Twelve of his very finest works combine to form a sweeping panorama of Irish myth and legend, history and mythology, combined with the mysticism of his Celtic forebears.
Here you will find the ancient tales retold as ancient battles are fought anew, the ancient sorceries recast. Here you will find the great kings and queens, the warriors and the wizards, the gods and goddesses and the heroes and heroines of ancient Ireland brought to life by the master.
Cú Chulainn -the Hound of Ulster, The Children of Lir -turned from children to swans, Fann and Liban princesses of the Shthe fairy sorceresses, Nuada of the Silver Arm, Lugh the Sun-God, Balor of the Evil Eye, Queen Maeve of Connacht, Fionn Mac Cumhaill –the greatest warrior of them all and his son, the warrior-poet Oisín taken to Tir na nÓg , the land of eternal youth by the beautiful Niamh of the Golden Hair.
You will find ancient legend sprung to glowing life in a series of masterworks by one of Ireland’s greatest living artists.
The ERINSAGA COLLECTION is a collection of beautifully printed lithographic prints on heavy linen-finish stock and each print has been carefully selected to represent the very best possible reproduction of the artist’s work. As near a facsimile as possible, each print has been vetted by Jim Fitzpatrick and comes complete with a signed Certificate of Authenticity.
Just in time for Christmas The Green Gallery will get Érinsaga to you framed or unframed. Should you wish to have this beautiful collection delivered to you within the 32 counties of Ireland for Christmas, please place your order before Saturday afternoon Dec 17th to avoid disapointment. We can also make arrangments to deliver to another address, giftwrapped.
An Gailearaí Glas mian leat féin agus do do Theaghlaigh ar Nollag síochánta agus sábháilte.

Thursday November 24th to Wednesday December 07th 2011.
An increadable exhibition of recent works by one of Irelands best known contemporaries Jonathan Knuttel.
A FEW WORDS FROM JONATHAN. I was born in Dublin, July of 1972. My parents had moved there from England in 1968. Among my fathers family are several noted architects and artists including Thomas Cooper Gotch who co-founded The Newlyn School of painting and great great uncle Archie Leech, better known as Cary Grant.
My earliest memories of the creative process were of watching my dad Peter and his brother Graham at work, when they were involved with the Lambert Puppet Theatre. Both Peter and Graham were involved in printmaking; sculpture, painting and my mother received a degree in History of Art. With art books strewn across the floor and paintings piled up in every corner I found myself learning style and technique.
I am strongly influenced by the German Expressionists painters (Kirchner, Heckel, Pechstien, Otto Mueller, Emil Nolde, Kandinsky, Franz Marc, August Macke, Beckmann and Egon Schiele) to name but a few. Painters from France, Holland, Belgium and the USA from the same era also interest me. These were a rebellious group of artists, who focused on form and colour, ignoring political and religious pressure to paint historical events and state occasions, no more nymphs, heroes and allegories, thus art became available to the masses.
I taught myself to paint in the same way someone teaches himself or herself a musical instrument. A mixture of the amalgamation of influence taken from all my favourite artists and working from my own individual observations, through which develops my own style which progresses as logic dictates, fostering amity between what's been done and what's to come. I have also been playing the guitar for 12 years.
When I paint my primary concern is colour.
I love the conflict between rushes of vibrant colour and bold, stark lines. Colour gives roundness to a surface, depth in the feeling of a surface. Colour is the rhythm, form and mood of a picture. Secondary to colour comes content. When I paint a picture I try to make the ordinary more extraordinary, each work being a feeling of my personal state of mind at that time.
Humanity, the humour in a situation, the bleakness of life, the battle of the sexes and the urge to carry on regardless has always fascinated me. I return constantly to still life and wildlife for inspiration. My great fondness for animals and musical instruments constantly appear in my compositions. I find it very easy to become immersed in painting, spending 14 hours a day, too busy to eat and regarding any interruption as a cat-flap for profanities. Spending too much time intellectualising or planning a painting is my last concern. I paint what is to be seen and in 200 years other people can think why. A glimpse into the social interaction and behaviour of people in the past is all I offer.

|
Winner of eight Grammy awards, for more than five decades Miles Davis was one of the most innovative and important performers of jazz music. Late in his life, he began experimenting with the visual arts. Miles Davis as an artist was mostly self-taught. His early artwork was inspired by the Milan-based design movement known as “Memphis” whose theme was based on hot colors and clashing shapes. His later work changed direction. He began integrating swirling abstracts and strong African inspired textures.
Miles is dead 20 years on September 28th this year so to honor this date The Green Gallery are hosting a special exhibition of his art and music. Running from September 24th to October 06th.

|
Born in the Republic of Georgia in 1960, Serguei Zlenko graduated first from the Russian Art Academy's Art School, and later received a Bachelor and Masters of Fine Art from Moscow Surikov Art Academy in 1984. A member of both
Russian and Finnish Artist's Associations, he is featured in galleries and collections in Finland, and throughout Europe and the United States.
A classically trained artist, Serguei draws inspiration from a great magnitude of subjects, resulting in his painting a wide range of themes. His work encompasses detailed topographical studies, ballet rehearsals and performances, metaphorical figurative works and the occurrences and characters surrounding him. Most of his painting activity focuses on the use of oils on canvas or board, although he often works in watercolour pastel and clay. His mastery of every technique affords him an overall creativity in each genre. Out of his huge artistic corpus, we can begin highlighting his figurative paintings; with which his work is often preoccupied. In his portraits as well as in his studies of dancers, he has cultivated a complete objectivity, attempting to catch his subjects in poses as natural and spontaneous as those recorded in action photographs. Extensive academic instruction in figurative and life studies has led him to experiment with unusual visual angles and asymmetrical compositions. By capturing the action of the moment, his ballet dancers are depicted in poses that do not attempt to conceal their physical exertions. Instead, he reveals both the concentration and potency necessary in each performance, whilst drawing attention to the dancers' elegance and regal poise.
Serguei's landscapes often originate from miniature colour studies painted en plein air. These highly detailed sketches are used das reference for larger canvases painted in his studio. By working in this method, he not only affords himself time spent in nature, but also hopes to impress upon the viewer the beauty and value of the diminishing landscape.
Serguei Zlenko belongs to a generation of Russian painters whose creativity falls in the critical period at the turn of the century. In this respect it proves to be very important to preserve the conception of inviolable aesthetic values in our rapidly changing world.

| Tom Cullen 10th anniversary Exhibition. August 14th to 31st - click

 |
|
Tom Cullen was born in Donnybrook, Dublin in the year 1934. From a very early age, he was advised...
and encouraged by an art teacher to consider art as a profession upon leaving school. However, out of necessity, Cullen decided to join the family business, and became a butcher; following in his father’s footsteps. 1973 brought a devastating bank strike in Ireland and, like so many other family businesses, the Cullen's family butchers went into liquidation. It was then that Tom took up painting professionally. Cullen’s work depicts Dublin in the ‘rare auld times’, and presents the city in an astoundingly depressing but altogether beautiful light. Using rich tones of textural oil paint, he shapes the city as he saw it through his own eyes. With the application of oils with small palette knife there is a contemporary feel to his work. For example, in his 1990 painting entitled “Coles Lane” from 1993, Cullen has constructed a spectacular composition, in which a hazily painted group of men stand in the vast shadow cast by the buildings and archway above. The colours used by Cullen are an honest depiction of an overcast, somewhat miserable evening in Dublin. Old Shops with depressed window shoppers line the flagstone street behind as a derelict corrugated iron roof cottage is all that remains of what once was an inner city homestead. Slumped below a clouded sky as Dublin seems to sag while the evening draws in. Upon viewing Cullen’s work, one cannot but be reminded of the influential works of L.S Lowry. Strong similarities can be drawn between their works, both stylistically and thematically. Lowry and Cullen express the spirits of their hometowns in times of great social and economic development and depreciation. Both artists express their obvious affection towards their cities through the paint itself and through tender and calculated strokes of palette knife and brush. Lowry and Cullen share a distinctive preference towards outlining their figures in a tone darker than the figures themselves. This is reminiscent of Van Gogh circa 1888. A darker outline holds the structure of the style of painting together, without overpowering it. The contour lines of the figures and landscape are given structure, while still retaining a sense of liveliness. This technique is a delicate and precarious one, but Cullen remains in control of the tonality and depth that the outlines provide; Scratching and lairing the paint onto the canvas with knife. Thus emphasising his painting as opposed to overwhelming it. Signing with matchstick the year was always included up until 1999. The reason for this is unknown as Tom painted up until his death in 2001. The 10th anniversary Tom Cullen’s death is now upon us. The Green Gallery on the Top Floor of St. Stephens Green Centre in Dublin 2 were Cullen’s main gallery for many years up to his passing and beyond to this day. Dermot O’Grady the gallery curator has just launched an exhibition of Tom’s paintings. It is surely an episode of Dublin that one must look upon with great interest. The paintings on show give us an eerie reminder of previous economic downturns, how life was and could well be again. |

The Art of John Lennon features prints of John's original hand-drawn sketches, from the archive of his art work now belonging to Yoko Ono.
In many ways, John Lennon was truly a renaissance man whose insights and perspective helped shape the sensibility of the temporary mind.
Born John Winston Lennon on October 9, 1940 in Liverpool, England, he died tragically on December 8, 1980. He married Yoko Ono at Gibraltar on March 20, 1969. On March 26, 1969 John and Yoko commenced their famous bed-in for peace at the Amsterdam Hilton.
While music will be remembered as his most popular art form, he loved both his literature and his visual art, studying at Liverpool Art Institute from 1957-60. He penned and illustrated three books: 'In his Own Write', 'A Spaniard in The Works' and 'Skywriting By Word of Mouth'. As early as 191968, John began moving toward a return to visual art. He was primarily interested in drawing and favoured the creative lose sketch… working in pen and ink. In 1969, as a wedding gift for Yoko, John drew the 'Bag One Portfolio' a chronicle of their wedding ceremony, honeymoon and their plea for world peace, the Bed-In. The suite also contained erotic sketches. The 'Bag One' series was first published and exhibited in January 1970 at the London Art Gallery. On the second day, the exhibition was closed by Scotland Yard and the erotic lithographs confiscated.
During 1986, Yoko Ono Lennon decided to share John's artistic genius with the pubic by publishing the first in a series of prints entitled 'This Is My Story Both Horrible and True', followed with 'Bag One Continued…', 'Dakota Days' and 'Karuizawa Series'. These works are a commentary on John's everyday life, his wife, Yoko an their son, Sean. The drawings are whimsical yet poetic, loving portraits of their years together. Drawn by one of the most important cultural figures of our time, these illustration celebrate human love and communication - two themes at the heart of John Lennon's contribution to the art of the twentieth century.
The 'Bag One Portfolio' is part of the permanent collection of the Museum Of Modern Art, New York. The graphic collection has traveled throughout the U.S., England, Spain, Italy, Japan, Australia, New Zealand, South Africa, Hong Kong and Manila.

Exceptional selection of oils by renowned Irish artist Tom Cullen 1934-2001 Dublin.
Tom Cullen was born in Donnybrook, Dublin in 1934. His father was a butcher whose family ran a butchering business in the village for generations. He was educated in Synge Street Christian Brothers School.
Tom's natural talent for drawing was noticed at an early age by his art teacher who encouraged him to take up painting professionally. However, on leaving school he entered the family business and his painting regrettably played second fiddle. 1973 brought a devastating bank strike in Ireland and, like so many other family businesses, the Cullen's family butchers went into liquidation. It was then that Tom took up painting professionally.
With the tutoring of his artist friends and his own natural flair he soon became one of Dublin's leading artists. He shared his first solo exhibition with Robert Ballagh and had many successful solo exhibitions throughout his long career. These included: The Graphics Gallery, Stephens Green; Man of Aran, Aran Quay; Ashling Gallery, Madison Avenue, New York.
Tom lectured in The National College of Art and Design, Thomas Street, Dublin and taught art in Blackrock College. He spent six years painting on the continent, primarily in Austria, Bavaria and Switzerland.
Tom developed a distinctive style over the years. Known primarily for his scenes of vanishing Dublin, his application of paints is bold and knowing, adding strength and character to the work. Tom used a palette knife technique and painted with a range of harmonious colour tones. The resultant, unique style can only be accredited to the artist himself.
Tom sadly passed away after a short illness in May, 2001 at the age of 66. With this event a deep sadness touched the world of Irish art. Tom's passing marked the end of an era as he took with him his ingenious style and scenes of Dublin in the "rare old times". As old Dublin, as it was once known, fades rapidly into dear memories, so too does our friend Tom. May these memories of this great artist and his paintings live forever.

By Fiona Donnellan
Wednesday August 05 2009
Family and fans of legendary rock singer Phil Lynott are planning a major exhibition to mark what would have been his 60th birthday.
The Green Gallery in Dublin will pay tribute to the Thin Lizzy frontman later this month with a collection of works inspired by him. Dermot O'Grady of the Gallery said: "The exhibition will be paintings and memorabilia and we are hoping to have a tribute band."
The rocker, who died from heart failure at the age of 36, was honoured with Leo Higgins' bronze statue near Bruxelles pub, just off Grafton Street, on his 56th birthday.
The gallery will exhibit a major selection of fine art paintings, limited edition signed prints and some precious memorabilia supplied by his mother, Philomena Lynott.
"I thought the exhibition would be a great idea and Phyllis said the same thing," said Dermot. "She pops into the gallery on a regular basis, she's a friend."
He explained that the idea for the exhibition came about when Colin Wedick, who runs a Phil Lynott website, and the Roisin Dubh Trust decided to do something to mark Phil's birthday.
Dermot added: "I'm a huge fan and Mark Baker is an artist in the gallery and he does great paintings of Phil, so it all tied together."
The gallery is in St Stephen's Green shopping centre, so there is a "huge passing trade. It is the perfect place, it close to the bronze statue of Phil, so it all ties together."
"I saw Thin Lizzy live three times. What a performer Philo was. He was an amazing songwriter too," said Mr O'Grady.
The exhibition will run from August 20, Phil's birthday, to August 29, and Philomena Lynott will perform the official opening.
It runs from the 20th to the 29th of August in the green Gallery on the top floor of Stephen's Green Shopping Centre.
The Irish Times. Fri 08 Aug 2009 Honouring Phil Lynott's 60th
Yesterday marked what would have been the 60th birthday of Phil Lynott. The legendary performer was born on August 20th, 1949, and died on January 4th, 1986 from a combination of heart failure and pneumonia at the age of 36.
Several events will mark the occasion of the Crumlin native’s birthday. The Green Gallery (on the top floor of St Stephen’s Green Shopping Centre, Dublin 2) is hosting an exhibition (ends August 29th) of limited-edition art prints of the late singer, as well as memorabilia supplied by his mother Philomena Lynott, who will also be the guest of honour at a charity tribute night at The Stonehouse in Navan tonight.
