Atila
Born in Romania in 1960, to a Hungarian family, Atila has developed his taste for art through writing poetry. His writing was appreciated and he received his first award at the age of 17. In the coming years he finished College as a computer programmer but he never lost his love for his writing. He started to collaborate with different newspapers, writing articles, and at the same time worked towards his first book of poetry. This unfortunately took a long time to be printed, but in 1994 he finally saw his poems published. His appetite for art increased and he exploited this inspiration by starting to work in wood. His first important work as a sculptor was a 3 meter high wood sculpture in the front of a Hungarian Church, in Romania. In the mean time he took a break from his writing and began to spend more hours sculpting and experimenting with oil painting. Most of his wood pieces and paintings represent the human body’s different and very sensitive personas. His art, inspired by women’s beauty, gave Atila a complex source of shapes and colors. Atila spends his nights painting and because of this the colours are still very bright even in a dark room. Atila’s inspirations began to mature through his soul and his vast knowledge of how to create a great poem or a beautiful painting. Since 1999 he has lived in Dublin, Ireland, and his art work, wood sculptures and painting’s have thus far been display in Dublin’s Guinness Gallery, Witchcraft, Cambridge Gallery and The Green Gallery Stephens Green Centre.
Artist’s statement The human being, mostly women, is a large and controversial inspiration for my work. The faces and hands could represent different aspects of every day life, and the soul could also be rich in colours. In each painting, I combine shapes and angles that create lots of emotion. I use the night as an accomplice to create new personage and colors.
