Andrius Kovelinas

Andrius Kovelinas has been living in Ireland for almost 6 years now. His extraordinary style and imagination has been on show at The Green Gallery shortly after he set foot on these shores. For many years Andrius had travelled throughout Europe producing his masterly works everywhere he went “I travelled a lot in Europe through Countries such as Sweden, France, Hungary, Lithuania, Spain. My sister lives in New York I go there two or three times a year and organise small private exhibition for collectors.” Before I moved to Ireland I was living In Northern France in the City of St. Michel. Among traces of Kovelinas still visible there is a large fresco for the supermarket chain L’eclerc. He returned there for a short time in 2007 to take up a similar commission. At the beginning of 2008 he had his most recent solo exhibition in Austria, in the beautiful city Gmunden.

In summer time every years, traditionally, he participates in the international Art Camp in France. This year was excellent for Andrius. After two weeks 5 days travelling thru the French Normandy where he was inspired with new ideas for his pictures. The final exhibition was in Sorbay .

Generally, Andrius’s themes are women. When it comes to painting women he takes great joy from this subject and will continue to pursue painting extraordinary works of beautiful women as long as he will be able to paint. “Women are designed amazingly by our Creator. All works are oil on canvas, but style and technique are not so important. So the tools are classic As usual small brushes. First – the idea is sketched on paper, then the real painting is produced. The only problem is time. I cannot create fast. Each work required preparation (the idea) and then realisation. I never paint directly on canvas without sketches. It can take between 2 days to 3month. As a result a beautiful picture is produced”. It is good to know that there are people out there who love Andrius work. “The important thing is that the people love the art, when a person buys my work and hangs it up on their wall, with positive energy and love. They not only have a beautiful picture, but a good mood and a small part of me, the artist”.

As a professional artist he began to participate in various exhibitions of posters in Sweden, Russia, Lithuania, and Poland. In particular he produced a lot of posters for the Opera, Ballet and Theatre companies of Kishinev, Moldova.

In 1983 he won the Grand Prix in a Politic Poster Exhibition in Moscow.

From 1987-88 he began to move back from posters to oil paintings, it was always his ambition to do so.

In 1998 he opened his own private art school in Lithuania where he taught children painting.

In 2001 Andrius closed the Art School and moved to France.

2001 during an exhibition in Reims France, he won the Public Prize (public favourite).

2003 Andrius came to Ireland and began exhibiting in the Green Gallery. His works in Ireland have remained exclusive to this gallery.

In February 2006 Andrius had his first solo exhibition in Ireland at The Green Gallery. It was a huge success. Very quickly he has gained favour amongst Irish art collectors.
